Gajar Halwa - Kota Doria Saree
Gajar Halwa - Kota Doria Saree
About the craft: Leheriya is a tie-and-dye technique of creating wave like patterns on the fabric practised in Rajasthan. The distinctive stripe and chevron patterns of leheriya are achieved through a particular technique of folding the fabric before it is dyed. Then it is rolled on to a wooden stand and then tied. Only the women artisans can tie the fabric because it requires softer hands. The artisans have a rhythm in the way they do this skilled craft only to create distinctiveness in every turn. The fabric is dyed in different colours, multiple times to create the required pattern. The fabric is then dried and threads are removed. Vola we get to see the waves of the sea floating onto the fabric right in front of our eyes! Our women artisans have added a touch of beauty by adding hand-mirror work and tassels.
