Parivesh Nandana Saree- Maheshwari silk
Parivesh Nandana Saree- Maheshwari silk
About the craft: Nandana is a month long and an extensively labour intensive technique of handblock printing practised only by a few artisan families. It is known for its characteristic buttas like Mirchi, Champakali, Amba, Jalam Buta and Dola maru. The prints were traditionally worn only by the women of bhil and other communities of the surrounding villages. The craft gained popularity but soon there was a decline in the demand due to the cost involved as the technique is quite time-consuming. As this is a highly skilled craft only the master artisans who have learnt it from their forefathers can take this legacy forward. Ethnoroots is trying to work with these artisan families in keeping this craft alive.
